NEWMONT GHANA 1.2 BILLION DOLLAR MINE

Newmont Ghana Limited has reiterated its commitment to seeing to an effective and transparent compensation module for individuals affected by their operations. Interacting with the media in Sunyani, the Sustainable and External Relations Manager-Ahafo North Project, Joseph Danso disclosed that through a well-established compensation programme, Newmont Ghana has compensated some 2000 farmers for crops and 500 others for structural losses under its Ahafo North Project.  


The programme was to bring stakeholders up to speed on the operations of Newmont Ghana Limited across the country. In detailed presentations, resource persons took turns to create awareness of projects being undertaken by Newmont Ghana especially the new Ahafo North mine in Tano North currently under construction. 

They touched on Land access, resettlement, Employment, and Local procurement. The Newmont Ahafo North mine is a 1.2 billion Dollar mine and will be the third Newmont mine in Ghana. It is expected to employ about 2300 people when it begins operations in 2025. 

The Sustainable and External Relations Manager North Project, Joseph Danso during a presentation emphasized the Company's commitment to ensure due processes are followed in acquiring lands for their operations. He spoke to GBCNEWS after the program. 

He further stressed that Newmont Ghana is committed to a fair compensation process. 

The Executive Secretary of the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADEF), Elizabeth Opoku Darko shared some updates on the Foundation. She indicated several women in the 10 partner communities have benefited from a variety of interventions.
