A New Sunyani Chief :Nana Odeefuo Ogyeaman Boahene Korkor II

Sunyani is green again with a new Paramount Chief.

After the final funeral and burial rites of the Late Omanhene of Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II which was held at the new palace in Asofufu, the people of Sunyani have been waiting patiently for the ushering in of a new Paramount Chief. 

Nana Odeefuo Ogyeaman Boahene  Korkor II, a 46 year old royal known in private life as Yaw Agyare has been enstooled.

When it comes to the enstoolment of Chiefs in the Boahen Korkor Asennie Royal Family, it has never being a walk in the park due to the three gates where a chief could be selected.

According the the members of the traditional council representated by the Akwamuhene, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng,  Adontenhene, Nana Boadi Akrofa II, Kyeame, Bosomtwe Appiah Kubi among others, it was revealed that the enstoolment has brought tension but, the family still stands strong as a unified force ready to continue the good work of the Late Nana Bosoma II.

At a media briefing on Friday, 17th January 2025 held at the new palace in Asofufu in Sunyani, the Bono Regional Capital, the new Paramount Chief, Nana Odeefuo Ogyeaman Boahene  Korkor II, promised to continue the legacy of Sunyani being the cleanness city in the days of his uncle Nana Bosoma II. Echoing that" the glory which was  bestowed on us as the cleansness  city will be restored". He also assured his people that the first one year of his reign will see great developmental initiatives.

Nana Boahene  Korkor II voiced out his appreciation and intentions. He was thankful to God and expressed gratitude to his ancestors especially  Nana Boahene Korkor I. He said "I am grateful to him wherever he is may his soul rest in perfect peace".

Addressing the media, he also explained the peculiarity of the Boahen Korkor Asennie Royal Family with  emphasis on the three gates. (Koo Antwiwaa, Akosua Dua and Baani). He was absolute that the bravery of his predecessors is what has given him this opportunity and made a promise to continue their great heritage.

Additionally, Nana was appreciative to the traditional council for their great work specially their steadfastness  through  the thick and thin of the enstoolment process.

To the Boahen Korkor Family he was more than grateful for their prayers: making his enstoolment a reality.

The new Chief pointed out that it is not the luxury of kingship or the inheritance of the seat of his uncle that excites him but the opportunity to help move Sunyani forward  in a positive light. He said "My tenure will truly transform Sunyani. A year by this time we will witness a city we will all be proud to belong".

Addressing his enstoolment and it accompanying disputes within the royal family, The Royal was confident that his elders, particularly the two great women who are still alive and abreast with the long history of the  family will assist in the amicable settlement of any dispute  for peace to prevail. He emphasis that "It will never be said that my reign collapsed the peaceful atmosphere we enjoy."

Nana Odeefuo Ogyeaman Boahene  Korkor II, finally encouraged the media to propagate the good name of Sunyani.

The issue of how social media influencers and bloggers have misformed the public in relation to his enstoolment was addressed and  entreated the media to given out accurate  information.

Mr. Yaw Agyare was officially installed on January 7, 2025. His enstoolment was celebrated with drumming and merry making as he was carried shoulder-high through the principal streets of Sunyani.
