The Nobleman Behind The Cleanest And Structured City In Ghana - (Sunyani )

Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II was born on 31st May 1946 in Sunyani, known as Osei Kofi in private life and Christian Kwakye in school. His mother Maame Afoofie, reigned as the Queen Mother of Sunyani with the stool name Nana Afia Yeboah while his father, Martin Daniel Kwakye served as the Headmaster of High Street Government School now Twene Amanfo SHS.

Descending from the Boahen Korkor Asennie Royal Family, he ascended to become the Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area in 1980, succeeding his uncle, Nana Kwaku Yeboah. 

Before his coronation, Nana Nkrawiri was a devoted activist for the Popular Front Party (PFP), championing social change. His commitment to progress continued throughout his rule, evident in the transformation of Sunyani into a well-organized and serene city.

As a student, he excelled in mathematics during his early education at Sunyani Secondary School. (He was one of the thirty - three pioneers of the school). His academic journey led him to Cape Coast University, where he majored in Pure Science and minored in Philosophy.

Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II began his career as a teacher at Berekum Training College(Now Berekum College of Education) and Dormaa SHS. His passion for education extended to his role as a Mathematics tutor at Sunyani Secondary School (now Sunyani Senior High School).

Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri was blessed with Nine children, three boys, and six girls, with one deceased. 

They are Evelyn Osei Kwakye, Joseph Osei Kwakye, Eric Osei Kwakye, Philip Osei Kwakye, Anastasia Osei Kwakye, Ernestina Osei Kwakye, Abigail Osei Kwakye,  Helena Osei Kwakye and Betty Osei Kwakye.

He had two wives Martha Adjei Nyarko and Janet Abena Mansa.

The Chief was a loving and affectionate father who took care of his home leaving behind a legacy of accomplished individuals. 

The Omanhene was very active in lobbying for projects. A typical example is how he worked tirelessly lobbying for the construction of the Sunyani Regional Hospital.  Another grand achievement of The King is The New Sunyani Palace as well as the Nana Bosoma Market.

Perhaps what Nana Bosoma would be greatly remembered for was his dedication to cleanliness and orderliness. Through his competent rule, Sunyani became known as the cleanest city in the country attracting people from across the country to make Sunyani their home. 

Economically, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II significantly contributed to Sunyani's development, fostering a thriving economy with a focus on agriculture, services, commerce, and industry. His efforts played a significant role in the establishment of higher educational institutions in the city.

He demonstrated a high sense of entrepreneurship in his private life with ventures in agriculture, the sale of hardware, and a transportation business.

A sports lover, Nana Bosoma excelled in table tennis, sprinting, and draughts. He was also a football fan, being a fan of both BA United and Manchester United.

As a man rooted in tradition and science, Nana Bosoma II balanced his religious affiliations with Presbyterianism and a deep respect for cultural traditions. 

Until his retirement, the Omanhene was one of the directors at the Brong Ahafo Regional Education Office.

He also contributed his knowledge at both the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (1988 to 2000) and the Regional Lands Office( 2008 to 2016) as board chairman.

Though humble, he was very firm with his decisions.

It is also interesting to note that before he became Omanhene, he was elected as an assemblyman with Sugar Cane as his symbol in Area 3 electoral Area.

The legendary status of Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II is not only evident by his bronze statue erected at the city center of Sunyani and the Nana Bosoma Market, but a great name that will always feature prominently in the history of Sunyani.

His passing in July 2022 marked the end of an era, leaving behind a lasting legacy of a clean, well-maintained city with a thriving economy, ensuring his impact resonates for generations to come.

The revered Royal has earned a special place in the hearts of the people of Sunyani after four decades of selfless service and leadership. A nobleman who always ensured that all institutions did not fail in their duties. His legacy was characterized by a commitment to justice and a strong sense of community.
