Guiness Book Of World Records Official Attempt Read-A-Thon

The promising Read-A-Thon and Guinness Book of World Record breaking attempt by Salomey Kwabea Agyei, has come to a successful end. Her target was to read for 164 hours  or 7 days to beat the existing 124  hours (5 days) set in Turkey in 2022. During an interview with a member of her Management team led by Naa Fosuwaa, she revealed that Salomey Agyei read books including sections of the Bono Bible and other Bibles, A Bono History, books authored by indigenous Ghanaian writers, among others.

BACKGROUND

In 2022, Rysbai Isakov achieved the longest  reading  aloud marathon when he read for 124 hours. In a quest to beat this record, an English teacher at the Kofiko MA Basic School in the Jaman South District of the Bono Region, Salomey Agyei started her reading at midnight on Saturday 25, May 2024  in Sunyani. The Read-A-Thon did not attracted much attention with a few Schools, teachers and members of the public patronising it. The Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu-Banahene, during her visit congratulated Salomey Agyei for her heroic effort and used the opportunity  to encourage the young ones to take a cue from Salomey and take to reading.

Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene also called for support for the core objective of Salomey Agyei which is to get the State and philantropic orgaisations and individuals to  build and stock community libraries with books and computers for especially children in the rural areas through her Readspell Literacy Foundation.

The Bono Regional Minister also assured the Guinness Book of World Records candidate that the Bono Region will project her outstanding performance throughout the country and beyond.

Salomey Agyei, the 37 year old English teacher finished her Read-A-Thon in style at the Sannak Hotel at Asofufu in Sunyani on May 31, 2024.
